Sons in Retirement

    Sons in Retirement (SIR) is a nonprofit, public-benefit organization consisting of retired and semiretired men who meet once a month for a luncheon meeting. There is usually a speaker, or some other entertainment, at each of these meetings. Branch Number 1 is one of 168 other branches of SIR throughout Northern California.

    The main purpose of SIR is to provide opportunities to make new friends and promote independence and dignity in retirement. The membership consist of men from all professions, including business, science, engineering, lawyers, teachers, medical doctors, truckers, florists, education, construction, manufacturing, firemen, bankers, Armed Forces, and many others. The only requirements for becoming a SIR are that one should have an acceptable moral character, be sponsored by an active member, and attend all the regular monthly meetings, unless prevented by illness or absence from the area.

    Branch No. 1 of SIR is located in San Mateo, California, and meets for their luncheon meetings in the San Mateo Elks Lodge No. 1112 located at 229 West 20th Avenue, San Mateo.

    There are many activities that are sponsored by SIR, such as the computer group, genealogy group, economics research group, stock study group, golfing group, bridge group, bowling group, and many others. One may join as many of these groups as one wishes. There are also many traveling opportunities that are sponsored by SIR. These range from one-day up to two-week trips that cover local sites to trips overseas.

Sir Happenings

The February 2008 issue of Sir Happenings has just been released. To access Sir Happenings click on "SIR's State Website" in the column on the left-hand side. This is an excellent News Letter that is published by the State Sons in Retirement, and it is highly recommended that everyone should read it. It is a professionally done document with input from several of the members of Branch 1 SIR. The News Letter comes out every three months.

This Website has been prepared exclusively for the use of the members of Damian Reynolds Branch Number 1 of Sons in Retirement, and for information about the Branch to others. It is for reference only, and its use for any other purpose is prohibited, unless sanctioned by the Executive Committee of Damian Reynolds Branch Number 1 of Sons in Retirement, Incorporated.
